Exclusive Interview: The Chainsmokers
The electronic duo, The Chainsmokers, made up with the talent of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, have risen to the top of the charts in the electronic music industry. The two have success on their minds and are succeeding on their path to achievement, especially with the drop of their hit single "#SELFIE" and now with their latest “Kanye“. “#SELFIE” made its move all the way to the #1 spot on the Billboard Dance charts back in March, and “Kanye“ is expected to do the same. When dropping bass thumping tunes or remixing some of the hottest tracks in pop and electronic music genres, The Chainsmokers are spending their time touring along the East and West Coasts, with shows ranging across the States. We just caught the duo in Pittsburgh last week and had a chance to catch up with the hilarious, non-stop runnin’ dudes.
Erupting from New York City, the quick-witted DJs signed with record label 4AM in 2012. The dynamic duo has performed with big names around the world including Avicii, Steve Aoki, DJ AM, Calvin Harris and Pete Tong.
The Chainsmokers have been spending the past few months getting their music out to the public and strengthening their fan base by playing at a number of festivals and events around the country. Let me tell you, this sure did work. Their "#SELFIE" track has become a phenomenon around the world, and everyone knows the lyrics.
But it wasn't always life in the fast lane for these two artists. Pall and Taggart first got their start in music at young ages, and have used Deadmau5, Cut Copy and Digitalism as influences to step foot in electronic music. Some other musical influences they mentioned were TJR, Kaskade and Pete Tong, though when it comes to listening to music in their spare time, the duo threw in some ASTR, Drake and Red Hot Chili Peppers into the mix.
When asked if they could collaborate with anyone in the industry, who would it be, The Chainsmokers responded, "DJ Snake, that dude has the golden touch right now." I see a future collaboration in the works, am I right?
How did the guys come up with the name of their electro-duo group? "In Japanese, it means 'guys who smoke after the next guy', and since we don't smoke, it made absolutely no sense - we thought it would be sick,” The Chainsmokers joked.
When on tour, there is always bound to be a handful of memories and stories to bring back with you. For The Chainsmokers, their most memorable touring experience is probably one they don't want to remember. "Throwing up on the flight from Dallas back to NYC for six hours. I will never forget how much that sucked," they explained. Now if their plane were to crash and they were to be stuck on an island, the three things they stated they would want to bring along with them are, "Kate Upton, Megan Fox and Olivia Wilde."
The sky is honestly the limit with these guys, and there's no slowing down anytime soon. For more news on upcoming releases and tour dates from The Chainsmokers, visit their website. Here’s to a never ending streak of success for Alex and Drew.
