Exclusive Interview: Firebeatz

Exclusive Interview: Firebeatz

beatzFrom being an opening DJ duo three EDC's ago, to today, you could say Firebeatz has definitely come a long way with their musical career. The dutch pair stormed onto the music scene in 2008, creating a name and a brand for themselves instantaneously. With energetic beats, and some of the best remixes out, Firebeatz has had high ranks on many festival lineups across the world. This was no different for Beyond Wonderland Bay Area, where the pair wowed fans with one of my favorite sets of the weekend. Beyond Wonderland Bay Area took place at the infamous Shoreline Ampitheatre Sept. 26-27. While the event ended early(11pm Saturday & 10pm Sunday), it still drew in massive crowds and went off without a hitch. The event was sprawled out over the grounds at the Shoreline with three massive stages, intricate art installations, and your Insomniac performers wandering through crowds. Beyond Wonderland featured names including Arty, Calvin Harris, G Jones and more. We were also lucky enough to have two EPIC artists take the stage, Zima and SNR.

Beyond Wonderland was dopeee!!!!

Saturday, at 4pm, as the sun began to set, Firebeatz took the stage to a massive crowd of eager dancers. Providing their signature sound and energy, Firebeatz provided a set that was sure to not disappoint. Us over at EPIC, were lucky enough to catch up with the two moments before their set. Check out the conversation below:

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: Beyond Wonderland is a pretty big festival and is only getting bigger. How do you both prepare for such a massive event?

FIREBEATZ: 50 squats, pushups, work out and then we go. No we don't ever really prepare our sets. We only make a folder to just make sure we don't forget to play some tracks. For every show it's not necessarily for a big festival but we make new mash ups. We know what we want to play but we don't have a standard playlist.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: Do you have any pre-show rituals?

FIREBEATZ: We make sure to go to the bathroom.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: You both spend a lot of time traveling on tour, what do you like to do in your downtime that doesn't involve music?

FIREBEATZ: Play video games, we play fifa with our buddies. We like to chill and definitely sleep a little bit.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: If you could describe your sound in three words what would it be?

FIREBEATZ: Energy, Groove, and Fire

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: You released your song 'Go', a couple weeks ago. Can you tell me a little bit about the song and your inspiration behind it?

FIREBEATZ: Its inspired by the vocal samples that have been going on lately. We just wanted to play with that and it came out really well.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: What is your favorite festival or show, big or small, you have played or attended and why?

FIREBEATZ: EDC Las Vegas, that was sick. Both years definitely.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: I actually saw you your first year there, you played really early, maybe even opened?

FIREBEATZ: Yeah the second day. And last year only got bigger. It was amazing, and it was busy for the time of the day. This year was even bigger I can't really choose but the first year was special. We didn't know what was coming and that experience wow. We're from Holland so we had never even been to EDC before.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: Any upcoming collaborations or tracks you can share with us?

FIREBEATZ: Yeah, we're working on collabs with W&W, Jay Hardway, and we're gonna do some new stuff. We have a lot of new tracks we're working on. We're gonna go in the studio with Chocolate Puma again, come together and make something fun.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: Musically or not, who has been your biggest inspiration?

FIREBEATZ: Michael Jackson, Goldie, a lot of things that sound different.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: What is your favorite food and why?

FIREBEATZ: Italian or Asian. I(Tim) have an American girlfriend. And she makes the best comfort food, although it isn't good for the belly.

Beyond Wonderland: Who to Catch and Why

Beyond Wonderland: Who to Catch and Why

Beyond Wonderland is quickly approaching, and to get you ready for the festivities, we are bringing you a list of our TOP 5 MUST SEE artists. Take a look, and even better, a listen, and be sure not to miss these artists as they take the stage at Insomniac's Beyond Wonderland this weekend! calvin

CALVIN HARRIS: Adam Richard Wiles, better known by the name Calvin Harris, is a Scottish singer, songwriter, record producer, remixer and DJ. Harris has collaborated with many other trending artists such as Ellie Goulding and Rihanna. Harris was discovered on Myspace and only three years later his album Ready for the Weekend was debuted at number one on the UK album charts. He continues to soar, and remains as one of the biggest powerhouses in electronic dance music. Harris' “How Deep Is Your Love” is now a mega hit, and is sure to be heard at every party you go to. With constant #1 tracks, Harris is sure to lay down nothing but the hits. This is NOT a set to miss, especially if this will be your first time catching Calvin Harris. Get ready to dance your booty off!

FIREBEATZ: Firebeatz is a Dutch dynamic duo made up of Tim Benjamin Smulders and Jurre van Doeselaar that formed in Amsterdam in 2008. That same year, their tracks “Speak Up” and "We’re Going Back” received attention on many Dutch radio stations. Soon after, attention from radio stations they began booking festivals in 2009 and they have been unstoppable ever since. Firebeatz works close with Calvin Harris, Tiesto, and Martin Garrix, who all continue to support the talented duo. Firebeatz is coming in with bang introducing his newest hot track “Go.” For a feel good electro hit and a really successfully song made by the two, give it a listen. Make sure to get front row for Firebeatz you wont be disappointed.

DJ Snake: Turn down for what? William Grigahcine, who doubles as DJ Snake, mixes nothing but bangers after bangers. DJ Snake is a Grammy-nominated producer whose single “Bird Machine” caught the attention of Mad Decent, who introduced DJ Snake to Diplo. He was then invited by Diplo to do a live mix on his radio show, Diplo & Friends. DJ Snake's remix of Calvin Harris “How Deep Is Your Love" gives you chills. The sharp vocals paired with the intense beats create a genius remix. The drop is something that can't be explained, and towards the end, you get a jazz-mix feel - amazing is an understatement.

tommyTommy Trash: If you want head bangers for days, run over to Tommy Trash. Quickly noticed by Laidback Luke, Tiesto and David Guetta, Tommy Trash is one of Australia’s biggest talents. Tommy is a party boy, who expresses his inner through his music, giving it his all every time he is on a stage. With Tommy Trash having platinum records around the world, its no wonder MTV has named him ‘One To Watch.’ You can find Tommy Trash at next years Holy Ship in Miami.

laidLaidback Luke: Laidback Luke was voted #46 on DJ Mag Top 100 DJs list in 2008, until he reached #27 in 2009 and then peaked at #17 in 2010. Before he found his passion for music, Laidback Luke carried the title of ‘graffiti artist.’ In 2012 he was nominated for the Best European DJ award. Laidback Luke has worked with major DJs such as David Guetta and Sebastian Ingrosso. Recently, Laidback Luke and Moska came out with a single titled “Get it Right.” The song has vocals that are sure to get any crowd singing along.

EDC Las Vegas: 2015 Lineup Announcement

EDC Las Vegas: 2015 Lineup Announcement

The EDC Las Vegas 2015 Lineup is finally here and it is massive! Since it’s inauguration in 1997, The Electric Daisy Festival has just consistently grown and have made some incredible strides along the way to the NOW. Pasquale Rotella, the frontman of all of this, has really pulled out all the stops to make this year’s Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas the best one yet. EDC has spread across the globe like wildfire to places such as California, New York, Puerto Rico, Mexico and the UK, but they still save their best and most prominent for Sin City.

The lineup this year may hands down be the best EDM festival lineup of 2015 as it is diverse and brings together all different branches of the EDM genre tree. Overall the lineup is massive and it is even starting to make me reconsider my plans for that weekend. Here is everyone who will be rocking under the electric sky in Las Vegas in alphabetical order and please forgive the length, blame Insomniac.

12th Planet, 3LAU, 4B, Aaron Jackson, Above & Beyond, AC Slater, Adrenalize, Adventure Club, Afrojack, Alesso, Alex Kidd, Alsion Wonderland, A-Lusion, Aly & Fila, Amine Edge & Dance, Andrew Rayel, Andy C, Angerfist, Armanni Reign, Armin Van Buuren, Art Department, Arty, Astrix, ATB, Audien, Audiostic Stage, Audiotricz, Avicii, Awe, Baggi Begovic, Basscon, Bassnectar, Bassrush Experience, Benny Benassi, Bingo Players, Bizel Boys, Black Sun Empire B2B State of Mind, Bones, Breach, Breathe Carolina, Brennan Heart, Brillz, Burn Unit, Calvin Harris, Camo & Krooked, Carl Cox & Friends, Carnage, Catz ‘N Dogz, Chris Liebing, Chris Lorenzo, Chuckie, Cookie Monsta B2B Funtcase, Coone, Cosmic Gate, Crisis Era, Crizzly, Da Tweekaz, Dada Life, Dannic, Danny Avila, Darksiderz, Darren Styles, Dash Berlin, Datsik, D-Block & S-Te-Fan, Definitive, Deorro, Dieselboy, Dimitri From Paris, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Disclosure (DJ Set), Discovery Project, DJ EZ, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Snake, Dom Dolla, Dr. Fresch, Dubfire, Duke Dumont (LIVE), Dusky, Dyro, Dzeko & Torres, Eats Everything, Ed Rush & Optical, EDX, Eptic B2B Habstrakt, Eric Prydz, Excision, Fallen, Fatboy Slim, Ferry Corsten, Firebeatz, Flosstradamus, Flume, Flux Pavilion, Freedom Fighters, Friction, Funk House, Galantis, Getter, Gladiator, Graham Funke, Grandtheft, Green Velvet & Claude Von Stroke: GET REAL, Hardwell, Hook N Sling, Hotel Garuda, Ilan Bluestone, Isaac, Jack Beats, Jackal, Jason Bentley, Javi Row, John Digweed, Jon Rundell, Justin Martin, Kaskade, Kasra BRB Foreign Concept BWB Enei, Kastle, Kayzo, Kennedy Jones, Keys N Krates, Kicks n Licks, Kidnap Kid, Kiesza, Kove, Krewella, Kry Wolf, Lady Faith, Laidback Luke, Laxx, Leiel, LNY TNZ, Loco Dice, Lookas, Loudpvck, Low Steppa, Mako, Mark Knight Presents Toolroom LIVE, Markus Schulz, Martin Garrix, Martin Solveig, Metrik, Mitis, Moby, Motez, Moti, Myon & Shane 54, Neelix, Nghtmare, Nicky Romero, Noisia, Oliver Heldens, Ookay, Orjan Nilsen, Pan-Pot, Party Favor, Petey Clicks, Popeska, Posso, Pretty Lights, Protohype, Psyko Punkz, Pulsatorz, Ran-D, Royl, Saeed Younan, Sander Van Doorn, Sasha, Seven Lions, Showtek, Sigma, Sinden, Skism, Slander, Snails, Speaker of the House, Steve Angello, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, TC, Technoboy, The Upbeats, Thomas Gold, Tiesto, TNT, Tokimonsta, Tommy Trash, Trent Cantrelle, Trollphace, Troy Kurtz, Tuneboy, UMEK, Vena Cava, Victor Calderone, Wilkinson, Wuki, Yellow Claw, Zomboy, Z-Trip

Whew! That was a long list of talent. That roster is more talented the the 2000 Los Angeles Lakers, but there are a few certain names that stick out right away to me. For starters, the names like Disclosure, Flume & Duke Dumont are not regularly known for working alongside Insomniac and it should be interesting to see their performances. On top of that Disclosure has a new album up their sleeve and may be teasing some of it at this massive festival. Other names that stand out and are must sees at such an event are Above & Beyond, Afrojack, Alesso, Avicii, Calvin Harris, Deorro, DJ Snake, Galantis, Kaskade, Martin Garrix, Martin Solveig, Showtek, Steve Angello, and of course Tiesto. All of those names seem to be the mega headliners and who really will be there to put on an unforgettable experience for all EDC goers. LAST but NOT LEAST is DJ Jazzy Jeff, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air righthand man. He is a legend who has worked with R&B & Hip Hop artists and producers for over 25 years now and I believe this is Insomniac reaching out and diversifying their lineups and acts and creating a balance in their festival, which I give kudos for such an attempt.

This year’s EDC Las Vegas will be one to remember as you can’t go wrong with whoever you see and however you spend your time under the electric sky. Insomniacdid not fail to disappoint and we could have seen this coming after an impressive EDC New York lineup. I have never been to an Insomniac event and shame on me, but with their continuous evolution of lineups and festival diversity, I believe it is time to attend one of their events, and what better way to start than with EDC Las Vegas? If you aren’t going, find a way to go. If you can’t go you can stream it live through Yahoo! Live which is powered by 7x7UP. Either way you should find a way to see it, and enjoy it from that point of view because I believe it will still be excellent either way. Thanks Insomniac for continuing to surprise me and I think many others as well. EDC Las Vegas 2015 is HERE!
